Conclusion

Thank you very much for taking the time to read some of my blog posts! I hope to continue posting - all be it less frequently - in the future as the "nuclear future" becomes the "nuclear present"!

Any questions or queries about nuclear energy would be most welcome on this post.

  1. I have really enjoyed keeping up with your blog Loz! Do you think nuclear could carry all the energy needs of the UK in the future?

  2. I don't think it is widely enough accepted to carry it entirely! I think it has a role to supplement other renewables, perhaps as a stop gap before solar etc is more econimically and physically sustainable! Thanks Charlie :)

  3. I have really enjoyed reading through your blogs! I feel that the main issue preventing nuclear is safe waste and decommissioning. Once a suitable and safe solution is found, this should not be a problem.

  4. Thanks Louis, much appreciated! The waste is an issue, but there are many progressions being made the 4th generation reactors for example produce less, shorter-lived waste through the use of fast neutrons - whilst the vitrification process is also being advanced where nuclear waste can be reduced to a residue and stored long-term in glass. once these solutions are further developed then the ability for wider expansion should be possible and potentially more widely accepted!

  5. I've loved this blog Loz and really hope you can keep posting in the future! I've learnt so mucha bout nuclear energy from this. What do you think is the likelihood of governments like the UK adopting more nuclear power to diversify the energy mix? Do you think they will resist this due to public opinion?

  6. i think it will be restricted, there is too much opposition I feel for wide scale - yet with greater foreign investment I feel it is inevitable that nuclear will be in the future UK energy mix. The UK favours renewable options which are arguably not currently available on the scale required, as well as questions of reliability. I feel it should be introduced and the government clearly has the intention to as is seen with the recent Chinese partnerships - however whether public opinion will allow it to dominate UK energy is another question.....
